About us
Keith and Julie met in 2022 while working for a fintech start-up business. When Keith moved on to turn his own ideas into a start-up business, he was looking for a partner with complementary skills. With a common background in financial services but in different business areas, Keith and Julie are a great team.
Keith Fielden, Co-Founder
Keith Fielden, a seasoned entrepreneur with 35+ years in finance, is now revolutionising digital administration and bereavement support. Inspired by personal loss, he’s created a product to ease administrative burdens, blending innovation, compassion, and compliance.
Julie Clapham, Co-Founder
Julie spent 20 years working in banking and finance. She trained as a chartered accountant with PwC followed by a career in investment banking and wealth management. She took an extended break from work to raise her two boys and on returning to work for a fintech start-up, she met Keith.
Where it all started
The inspiration for SmartOnion came from Keith’s personal experience of tidying up his late father’s affairs. Sorting through all the paperwork was a tedious and time-consuming task at what was a difficult time. When it came to light several months later that there had been no record of some investments, Keith wondered what else he might have missed. Today in the U.K. there is a staggering £31.1bn of unclaimed pension pots - funds forgotten, lost or simply unrecorded. (source: Pensions Policy Institute 'PPI'))
